Minutiae

It was chilly this morning and even into 10am it was chilly. Nice! It was also cloudy, NICER! As much as I love the beach and the sun, a chill in Austin is always nice because usually you get is sun, heat and humidity and ther is no beach and I can't take sun sans beach all year.

I am so hungry. The cruise ship got me used to eating at all times. How did I get into that habit after one week? But I am now hungry 9am-3pm non- stop. Nothing can make it go away. I thought my mega avocado and spinach sandwich, candy bar and soup I brought and thought that would really keep me feeling full until at least 2pm but it was gone by 10am! All three were my breakfast.

Because I am hungry I am thinking of Sarcone's again in Philadelphia. UGH! Wish they could ship me a large Sinatra Hoagie. How many times have I mentioned that place and Seeger's Bakery (South Main Street in Del Rio,TX) on this blog....But those two places really had heavenly eats. Seeger's sighyummmmmmmmmm

Did I mention their Boston cream pies? During the summer they were so cold and light and fluffy and just sweet enough. Their cream puffs, not a place in Austin can hold a candle to those yummy, perfect lil cream puffs always sprinkled with powdered sugar. The creamed horns yummmmmmm the cookies and lil carton of milk and they'd fit it all in a lil bag for you to carry out. I wish I could just walk into the place right now.

Obscure minutiae:
Note: Why not take little metal bottle tops and nail them to your living room floor. It gives you the impression that you are walking on little metal bottle tops.

Fashion Forecast:Necklines are plunging lower every year. This year the V will go down to the tummy in something of a peek-a-boo effect. Keep this swing of fashion and sort of have your own personal navel observatory.

Davy Jones Dance Shuffle

have mastered that Davy Jones shuffle, you know the one...that lil move he does in Daydream Believer and just about every time he starts to groove. Teehee, now if I can get that haircut (needs bangs, ugh!) and sew myself one of those Monkee shirts, guess who will be Davy Jones for Halloween 2006?!
You got it!

Yeah I can do the fancy footwork and even the groovy upper body thing he does...thanks to many years of ballet training? Uh, no, but maybe thanks to all the choreography I had watch and learn.

For those who don't really know me..I'm sort of kidding here. About the costume. I can really do a mean Davy Jones Shuffle.

Mommy and Movies

My Mother and I would watch movies together every Friday night and into the weekend. It was back before cable and then when WTBS would show them and then later we followed whatever classic movie channel was out there. I saw The World of Henry Orient with her and Gidget, all the Peter Sellers and Sandr Dee films and hundreds of others all for the first time with her. On my birthday I think of my mom because I was her first. She tells me the same story and calls me at 10:11am every year. Love you Mom!

We're Married!

We were engaged last June but the planning for the wedding didn't start until late December for an April 8th date. It worked out. The wedding was beautiful and exactly what we wanted. Things went smoothly. On April 9th we sailed on Rhapsody of the Seas for a one week cruise. It was my first ever and I am hooked. Key West, Florida was uber cool, Grand Cayman was gorgeous and Cozumel was a dream. We came within 23 miles of Cuba and had Cuban food! Hung out with stingrays, and had a private beach to ourselves. We got to see cool shows, eat fantastic food!

Nothing like a beach and the ocean. Why did my ancestors move so far from the ocean!? I've never been on a vacation before where it's just total relaxation. Cruises rule! Better than Vegas, better than any vacation I have ever been on (maybe that's because I was with my best friend?:>). I highly recommend a cruise in the Spring.

View photos of the wedding here and photos of the honeymoon here.
Ciao,T.

1971 Baby

You have an entire peer group aging with you. Every baby born in 1971 will have a birthday this year. One day all of us will have deep wrinkles, subscribe to AARP and die off all around the same time (I hope that is a whole 60 years off).

For now though, we are still pretty young! Ask any 60 year old and they'll tell you, 35 is young and then laugh that you think it's so old. It's disgusting to fight off the years. You can always be who you are and who you want to be, age figures into it very little, growth figures in more. It's disgusting to feel you are old. I knew a man once who told me he wasn't old until he turned 80 and that he didn't feel old until his legs gave out. He was 85.

Before 4/12/1971 there was no you and I'm glad there is a you and that's all I want to celebrate that day...that there is another year to look forward to with you around and in this world. A young you too. We all (1971 babies)catch each other's pop culture references with no explanations and that is awesome!

Now, tell me what you'd like for your birthday.

Just Drive & Don't Drive

Keep your eyes on the road and use your mirrors to change lanes but keep your eyes open and just drive. If the people in this country were REALLY good at multi-tasking, we'd be better off but the truth is: Multi Tasking is a gift, a skill and only a few people in our society can do it efficiently. Can you sing well enough to make money off it? Can you write successful novels? Can you train tigers? Can you multi-task at work or in your car? SAY NO! Cause you probably can't so accept it, but I am sure you can do something else that is brilliant and do that and shine but when in a car, just drive.

Speaking of driving: NPR reported that if this country could lay off their automobiles for 3 days the gas prices would decrease. Like many things, it is so simple, right under your nose but does it happen?NO! Why????????? WHY?

So people can gather and network and come together for pillow fights and various flash mob events all over and set records but won't get together in any way to boycott gas stations and stop driving for a few days in a row or even cut down in anyway that could make a statement? Pathetic.

Leaving it to hipsters

A flash mob or Flash Club:

Group of people who assemble suddenly in a public place, do something unusual for a brief period of time, and then quickly disperse. They are usually organized with the help of the Internet or other digital communications networks.

The term has also been applied to distributed mobs, who use similar means to co-ordinate sudden large scale simultaneous actions in multiple locations. An example of such an action is the widespread use of mobile phones in the 2005 civil unrest in France to co-ordinate widespread social disruption.

Before the creator of the flash mob revealed his experimental motivations in the March 2006 issue of Harper's Magazine, a Bennington College professor of digital arts was teaching the flash mob as an art form whose content was defined by the scene. This definition may change as we see the flash mob in light of [creator] Bill Wasik's revealing his manipulative motivations; 'to gather the hipsters into a single space and study them as a cultural group'.

TODO

Things to do:
1.Read about Moondog
2. Try and catch Underpants of Science show next time it appears (C. got to see it but they called the cops and I didn't get too). What is the big deal?! Why can't they just leave this up? Try the PCL Library, in the basement.
3.Take photos
4.Eat well and get more sleep
