Brown vs. Board of Education gone?

My love for all things retro refers to fashion, art, aesthetics, music and all that is fluffy, sweet and nostalgic from the past, all the cool and creative stuff that came out of eras that were completely in the dark. I put America History through a mental press and squeeze out the sweetness leaving the pulp and seeds behind and that is all that was truly ugly and backwards. You really get very little "juice". Had I existed 50 years ago I would not be allowed in certain parts of town, surely not living in the hood I live in now and my choices in life would be few.

In fact I have been reminded every now and then how life would be. I have had a few sweet conversations with older Anglo womenin the hood who have disappointingly though not surprisingly ended with, "Do you clean houses?". In Texas you still run across educated males of this "modern era" who hold the most asinine and ignorant ideas about Hispanic women and minority women in general. I met a twenty something woman in the Dallas area who not only did not like Mexicans but it was even a foul word in her vernacular. It was amusing the way she'd use it, "ME-XICAN" (said with voice raised, face cringed), referring to a rude Samoan cashier at the Grapevine mall.

It's hard to believe that our government has decided yet again to take an ignorant step and revisit that backward ugliness. Sadly though, just giving the people what they are asking for? Hard to imagine there are people tres happy knowing their child won't have to mix and mingle with a minority child during their entire scholastic life, not your most forward thinking people.
