Mental sticky notes....

All the ridiculous talk of socialism just last week led me to discover Victor Gruen. He was a socialist who fled Vienna after the Anschluss in 1938 and creator of the first mall in the United States. October 1956, the location was the Minneapolis suburb of Edina, where a shopping center called Southdale opened and became the first mall. Gruen believed that the self-contained mall would become the center of cultural activities and recreation. He didn't think they would become consumerist churches but that they would function like the town square did in the old country.
Ironic. The current economic climate has endangered many malls. It's time to get back to the idea of an old town square that people can bike too

To my bus buddies: you haven't seen me on the bus since September. That is when my supervisor decided to go rogue and made all her underlings commit to a schedule that would remain unchanged for one year and login and logout every day. So I no longer enjoy a chapter in a book, a chat with a friend or a pleasant scenic ride into work. There are too many variables involved with busing and I would not be getting to work at the exact time every day. I committed to a very early start time since I have obligations after work. I drive into work now. I drive fast, park far and for free and then do a runwalk just like the White Rabbit in Alice in Wonderland. I arrive annoyed, irritated with the nothing but the clock on my mind. Yes, my supervisor owes us all carbon offsets and an explanation. But I can't complain since I've managed to lose three pounds and keep them off. I did nine blocks in nine minutes this morning. Used to take me 15! Going for eight minutes.
