It's called Watergate Salad

and I found the recipe in my mother-in-law's old cookbook. I was intrigued by the name. The recipe is very 70's....
1 lg carton Cool Whip Cream
1 pkg Pistachio pudding
1 1/2 cups sliced green grapes
1 cup chopped pecans
1 can pineapple tidbits drained
1 1/2 cups miniature marshmallows

Mix cool whip and pistachio pudding together until well blended. Add other ingredients Chill and serve.

I don't think I can bring myself to eat this after all the Michael Pollan books I have read but I can bring myself to make it? UGH! Thanks a lot M. Pollan! Maybe leave out the ready made Cool Whip and pistachio pudding and just make those all wholesome like, the old fashion way. Marshmallows too? Actually, as I learned last Xmas they are tres easy.
But why was it called Watergate Salad? A wiki entry even? And I thought I was bringing you something moreless obscure.

The Du Jour In My World

IN
1. Big braided rugs-tres vintage and look nice on hardwood floors.

2. Turquoise kitchens-Like my Grandmother's kitchen that also has knotty pine cabinets and atomic Formica (both in as well)

3. French music CD compilations-Merci, Renee!

4. Moss lamps

5. Studios-studio space, place to create, a place to place

6. Backyard Beekeepers

OUT
1. Flokati rugs-believe it or not, best for rooms that see little traffic and super dope vacuum cleaners. Still look nice with Danish furniture but definitely a bachelorette pad accessory and I'm unloading three huge ones.

2. Tons of Shoes-I once owned 76 pairs of shoes and the collection kept growing from there. After scoring brand new Fluevogs at a garage sale recently for $7 I've decided to take stock and keep less than ten pairs at all times. Yep, drastic, perhaps part of an existential crisis but necessary.

3.Storage-C'est fini

4. Feeling old-I'll be in Austin 20 years next August and my 20th high school reunion is next summer, but the Dead Milkmen are getting together at FunFunFun Fest, so all thoughts on pushing 40 just get pushed away.

Thank you Bradbury&Bradbury

Looking for interior paint colors circa 1940 I stumbled upon Bradbury&Bradbury.

Back when I lived at 3707 Red River, this was the exact wallpaper used in the kitchen!
Great to know that Bradbury&Bradbury is around to supply such wonderful wallpaper from Art Deco to Mod!

Ray Gelato

I went to Philadelphia to catch Ray Gelato perform with the Rhythm City Orchestra some years ago. I got to see him perform at Zanzibars and at a private party in Manayunk. It was like time traveling. I feel lucky to have caught his performances that week because he doesn't seem to make many trips across the pond.

What was fun were those fish sandwiches and fries after the Manayunk show at a downtown diner after midnight with Ray and JT.

Analog

I adore vintage items from any era really, vintage homes and classic cars, vintage clothing, hairstyles, furniture and basically the whole empanada but I don't know for how long I'd be able to live a real vintage life. Stay at home wife, cooking, cleaning, looking nice for the hubby when he gets home like Joanne Massey, not really for me. Oh don't get me wrong, I'd love it for all of 4-6 months. I'm a bit too independent for that, longterm. Otherwise, I do think I much adore these women's lives, from afar.

So it seems that Mr Massey does much to keep his wife happy. He made her a dream dressing room based on a Doris Day film! I have to think about that. I mean, that is really sweet not to mention hard work. So are they in fact equal in their efforts in trying to make each other happy and their marriage work? I don't know. I have to watch the documentary, one day, if it ever makes it to the US.

My new shaaaaaaaaa

It's been a summer of home improvement for us. It's addictive and it's about time we got to it. As a result, everything else has sort of been neglected. I've been watching a lot of This Old House lately. It's cathartic to watch other people go through stress and feel that our projects are really small potatoes compared to the complete overhauls they show. I am better when it comes to procuring bids. This has come with practice, I used to be rather lazy about the whole process and would get a mental block when presented with more than one number to call. Now, I'm a regular appointment setter.

I feel like I've been far away. Not really been in much contact with friends this summer. Everyone is doing their own thing and I've been busy too. Time has flown by, wasn't it just May? Now as we near the end of the Paramount Movie Summer Classic Series, it seems like the months race by after September. Anxiety can set in if I think about this more than a second. Calenders don't really mark time for me, what does is hearing what's up with friends and acquaintances. A lot can happen in three months. I can see why digital clocks and watches are better to have around. None of that analog ticking that is so annoying when you need 32 hours in a day.

When there are stressors I tend to retreat. Isn't home improvement up there? It feels good to commiserate with other victims or survivors of the whole ordeal. So if you see me, it must be Lowes. This weekend I'm sanding down a vintage screen door and I want to sand down a vintage screen door so I can paint it and put it up because the house probably had one back in 1949 and this one is so cute and matches the shutters so perfectly. It took forever to get one, I mean wanted posts on Craigslist for months and driving to the Re-Habitat Store on weekends and looking into those $400 custom made vintage door makers online etc.... So you see, I don't expect you to understand, but it's a big deal. Then there is the refurbishing of one interior door. It's a two panel and those are in high demand and hard to come by and after months of searching the solution is a man who is excellent in bringing them back to perfection and the sooner I get the door to him the better I will feel. It's a fix!

Chickens. Well yeah it's been about chickens too. They start laying soon.
Not getting into the shed to studio transformation. But pics will follow once it is done.

Del Rio and it's skunks

Texas border town faces skunk infestation
Thu Jul 31, 8:45 PM ET

The residents of this border town are facing a stinky and growing problem these days: skunks. Eddie Ortega, the director of Del Rio's Community Health Service Center, said there's an unusually high number of the malodorous creatures running around these days.
"I'm not positive of the reasons behind this past year's infestation, but we have invaded their territory," he said. "Also, the heat and very little rain have probably caused them to be more active in order to find food."
The nocturnal animals are not all bad news: They keep rodents in check.
But still, Del Rio residents don't have to keep them around. The health service center is offering cages for residents to catch skunks. A worker will move them elsewhere.
